i was set up on a blind date a few months ago with a guy who lives like 30 minutes down the road.
30 minutes down the road means he lives 9843671623 restaurants away.
being the gentleman that he was, he drove 9843671623 restaurants away to pick me up at my house.
and being the super great first date impression planner that he was, he also told me he "didn't know what there was to eat around here" and told me to pick the restaurant.
being the kind of girl who feels like there are boy jobs and girl jobs in the dating arena, i pointed him in the direction of some really great restaurants downtown.
i suggested the row with the napoleon pizza place and in case that was too intimidating {read: ethnic}, there was the homegrown local pub/brewery next door. that's man food.
... among others. there were restaurants everywhere.
so, his internal man-navigation brought us downtown, exactly as i had suggested.
but he took a turn one street sooner than i had expected and we pulled into the parking garage of the mall.
THE MALL.
now, i know it could be worse. he didn't take me to hot dog on a stick, but he did pass up the italian place, the steak house, the fish place, sports bar, tex mex place, and even california pizza kitchen.
he chose applebee's.
you know, eatin' good in the neighborhood.
and in a completely expected move, he ordered the chicken and broccoli fettuccine alfredo with a water to drink and took half of it home in a to-go box.
so, look, this is where the presumptuous part comes in.
and if ever there was an occassion to get fiesty about something i say, i own this one:
i don't eat at applebee's.
i consider it to be the lowest of the low food chain restaurant.
i only eat food that tastes better than that food.
although, i'm sure you get what you pay for.... $7.49fettuccinealfredo
i sat across the table and made conversation with a stranger who voluntarily chose to take me to applebee's.
and i got to decide whether or not i wanted to like him and i chose against it.
regardless of our difference in fine dining,
he didn't know what a blog was so it never would have worked between us anyway.
