Gapping it...

Couple of the ChCh lads did a roadie down to timaru & timuka,Here at fungus we like all members to contribute ( And we actually post pics.... No shit )
so without any more bollocks from me.... Take it away richard..

Temuka, Timaru and the trip there and back....
Well we are getting on to that part of the year when the weather starts to mess with riding, so when the weather man delivered a fine Saturday we packed the ute and hit the road. We met at Lincoln’s bmx party house (the new one!) and the first stop was the bakery to sort out a few hungover/tired players. A bacon and egg pie made me feel better and I wasn’t even crook, gotta love bacon and eggs!
We rolled south under blue skies and sunshine, a quick stop in Ashvegas for energy drinks. The sugar kept the conversation going about video parts and, um, yeah, other video parts! We arrived at Temuka hyped up and ready to ride. It didn’t take long for Dane, Hamish and Tom to start throwing down so I went and dug out the camera. I am no expert with the camera so the pictures may not do the boys justice. Dane had a front peg on so he was pulling sweet smiths everywhere but being Dane he eventually whipped the peg off so he could concentrate on his nose manuals and coaster madness. How he can ride so smooth on a bike that is almost mechanically dead is beyond me... Sorry big guy but its true, you rip and your bike is ill.

Hamish had ledge stuff on lock plus his bars seemed to need spinning a lot! Watching all those Animal and Skavenger vids is rubbing off on this boiii, plus riding ALL the time. He doubled the rail, smithed down the big ledge and thrashed the funbox with tricks like opposite double peg to 180 out, feeble to over opposite smith and opposite feeble to 360 out. If my camera work wasn’t too horrible there might be a half decent video of him smithing down one ledge while Dane manuals down the other one. Nice work guys!

Tom got in the ute looking a bit the worse for wear in Lincoln but he gave his hangover the boot in Temuka and started  laying down Luc E grinds on the fun box. I shot some video and they got better and better with each take. I think they are one of the hardest grinds out there so I stuck to doubles and smiths... Which was great until I dug a peg into the cement and had a signature trip over the bars. It looked worse than it was and I got up and walked it off. Besides, when you’re nearly 40 It doesn’t really start to hurt until two days later... Lmfao!
The day stayed brilliantly fine under a big blue Canterbury autumn sky so we piled back into the ute and moved on to Timaru skate park. This park is great the layout is a little cluttered but there is something there for everyone, transition, ledges, a sweet manual pad and even a nice wall ride. The traffic in the park was a bit mental but we just rode around it as best we could. Tom had his Luc E out again, this time on top of a crazy bank to wall. I double pegged the same obstacle and was happy at that but he kept on until he pulled that Luc E sweet. His attitude seems to be hit it fast and hard, get it done! I think his skate background helps too, the skills definitely cross over.
Once again Hamish destroyed every grindable surface in site. His favourite was feeble to over opposite smith to 180 out but I really like his double peg to drop down a flight of stairs on the outer edge of the park. He hit fast but still just dropped off the end so hard his bars moved. He rode away though and thats the name of this game boiii! Mr Danezig pulled his hop nose manual sweet as well as some other craziness. At one point I thought he was going to fakie 5 from a wedge into a big quarter, turns out that was not what he had in mind but we should go back and get that on film one day for sure.
The day had worn on so we hit KFC for some required grease and a bit more comedy before pointing the ute north. Rather than just gapping it we detoured through Geraldine and hit that park in the gathering dark and cold. I guess it was only at this point that we were reminded it was an autumn day’s ride not a summer’s one. Everyone got some shredding done, Geraldine is a very different park and you have to work to find lines. My main achievement was to somehow magically tear the valve stem off my rear tube. This pissed me off but the plus was it lead to more hilarity while we fixed it at the Shell  station (for the record Shell Geraldine has an awesome compressor and can pump an Odyssey Path to 90psi... Free plug!). We loaded bikes and idiots in the ute once again and finally headed for home. The plan was to stop and hit Ashvegas park but we were all a bit knackered and it would have interrupted an amazing conversation about a particular genre of film making.... Ah, I will leave it at that!

To try and draw this to a close, I would like to say thanks to Hamish, Tom and Dane for being up for the good times that a trip with the bikes always is. You guys are great riders and great to hang out and be an idiot with. To everyone else reading this, don’t waste any sunny autumn, or even winter days! Pile those bikes and mates into a car and get out there. Take some pics or  video and share them with people so they can enjoy your riding too. Take care on the roads though so you can do it all again. Ride on!
