i'm going to offend someone with this post.

for as long as i was young enough for my mom to make my wardrobe decisions {all of the 80s and most of the 90s, thankfully}, she never let me wear clothes with a trademarked image.

like little mermaid pajamas, for example:

also - thankfully for her - i have three sets of grandparents who:
{one} taught at a university in china
{two} were compulsive hoarders living in mexico
and
{three} spent their retirement at cat shows - a la 'best in show' - really.

and none of those hobbies condoned the trademarked clothing fashion statement. christmas gifts were, like, asian rugs and watercolor scrolls from chinese flea markets.

so by the time i had a say in it, i was well trained and kept my closet stocked with solid colors and simple patterns.

thank you, mom.
my children will never know whinnie the pooh makes sweatpants.
