when i woke up yesterday morning, i knew should have packed a few more things for my day...
sundays always begin with a shower, getting ready for church, then i pack a bag for dinner in sojo with the davis' and head there directly after church. if i don't do any chores/laundry/anything-on-my-to-do-list before church on sunday, it doesn't get done. by the time our regular sunday routine is over and i head home, it's 1030, 1045 or so and i head straight for bed.
but on a holiday, we get to stay up like there's no school tomorrow. and that's just what we did.
throw in an overly ambitious plan to celebrate independence day {and our independence from corporate email, monday morning manager's meeting, and our timesheet} and we're like kids on christmas morning: too excited to sleep.
the only problem is - our monday plan started at 630 a.m. at the local city 5k registration table... and the day ins't anticipated to end until midnight.
our SUPER DUPER FOURTH OF JULY FUN DAY itinerary:
5k
breakfast at kneaders
hike up little cottonwood canyon
swim party at the neighbors
movie
trax ride to the salt lake bees game
fireworks
that's like 6 wardrobe changes, you guys. HAD I THOUGHT ABOUT IT in the early hours of sunday morning {foresight's a wonderful thing... i'm still learning} i would have packed pajamas, running clothes, hiking clothes, swimsuit + poolside paraphenalia, patriotic clothes, and more pajamas... because as i see it, driving a half hour home at 1130 pm when i'm to be back in the very same spot at 630 am is NUTS. and then doing it again the next night is even more nuts. guest room, anyone?
as our plans solidified, i asked ally to create me a packing list like it was 6th grade camp. if only it was as easy as 5 things on a sticky note. in my head, i was thinking about the blowdryer, the moisturizer, the shoes, shoes, shoes, the towel i'm using to ring out my still-bleeding-violet-hair-dye-from-saturday's-appointment so i don't bleed on the guest towel, all the bathroom tools i'll need to shower between each very necessary post-activity shower activities, the cell phone charger, and all six wardrobe changes associated with the day's activities we've selected to honor and celebrate the guts out of our independence.
god bless america, my friends. enjoy the day and the freedoms we are so blessed with to move about and do as we please. even if it means doing it all in one day.
