phil dunphy's a gentleman.

after weeks of scheduling and coordinating and emailing and rescheduling and crossing our fingers for a copper onion dinner date with brooke and her sister jamie...

{couple things about jamie.  1. getting us together is a little bit more of an effort than my normal "you up for dinner tonight?" approach since she's a utah county-er AND a grad student's wife AND a mother of two.  2.  jamie's 30.  i'm 29.  brooke is 21.  if you do the math, it's a little crazy that brooke and i are long lost twins.... but not so crazy that jamie and i have a budding friendship via email, facebook, and blog-dom.  i mean, we could be friends in real life.... given a few more scheduled dinner dates and the like.}

...we got to the restaurant last night at 7 p.m. only to discover the ultimate disappointment - a 2.5 hour wait to get a table. soooo..... we went somewhere else.  booo.  i should have figured... broadway theater... sundance films... oh, and it's really good food.

dinner was over.  jamie had to go home.  booo, again.  but brooke and i skipped over to a movie at the broadway theater.  {127 hours.  it's cover-your-eyes-but-peek-through-your-fingers intense. i mean, heart pounding... on the verge of fainting.... fetal position-esque movie.}

and right there... between the parking garage and the theater....

i ran into - literally - julie bowen and ty burrell: claire and phil dunphy.

i froze.  i grabbed brooke's arm, squoze real tight and said, "brooke.  brooke. look! it's claire.  it's modern family.  it's julie bowen and her husband.  it's them.  look!"  none of which made sense.  phil was holding the door, talking in that deep phil dunphy voice of his while the entire entourage left the copper onion... the restaurant we planned on dining at all.week.long.

if i had any more wits about me, i would have kindly - without an ounce of craze - said hello and mentioned to julie that we knitted together in west hollywood and she drew me a "map to the real stars".

we're pretty much best friends by now.
