my mom informed me last night that i have dr. suess to thank for my dependability and ability to follow through on commitments...
you see, even though i don't really remember, she read me the classic "horton hatches the egg" as a child... which, helped her to form the above mentioned qualities as a child, as well. it's true. my mom's pretty dependable.
and even if no body else knows it... this i know: I DON'T BAIL.
('cept for that one time i went to boston instead of teaching enrichment in holly's ward. i feel really bad about that one...)
ask all my friends... when it's in my calendar, it's as good as done.
what's "horton hatches the egg" about, you ask? it's the story of maysie, the lazy bird who asks horton to sit on her egg while she takes an extended vacation. "very well, if you insist. i'll stay and be faithful. i mean what i say."
horton is ridiculed by all of his friends... for the absurdity of an elephant sitting on an egg up high in a tree, exposed to the elements (after all, maysie was gone for a long long time), captured by hunters, endures a long and horrible sea voyage, and sold to a traveling circus. all the while, horton is true to his word and sits on that egg... because he told maysie he would. "i meant what i said, and i said what i meant. an elephant's faithful one-hundred percent."
in the end, horton's reward comes when that baby egg hatches and it's a lil' elephant with wings.
how sweet the reward...
mom, it was probably a girl baby.
