on being a bennion.

you wanna know what it's like being a bennion?

like...
daughter of scott and rebecca
neice of liza, rebecca, anne, mark, david, brian, allen, and alex
grandchild of george and joye

thanksgiving 2009
family gathering in orem
grandma asks me to bring the the whipping cream, unwhipped
{must leave that to the experts}
and baguettes

simple enough, you'd think. but the instructions from grandmother to granddaughter went down like this:
"i want you to put your forefinger and thumb together to form a ring. i'd like the baguettes to be that big around. nothing from a grocery store, please. see if you can find at that french bakery downtown, but i guess any bakery will do."

thankfully, i pulled through - and i was invited back for christmas.

mother's day 2010
family gathering in orem
the emails are on fire among the local family members

i ask liza what i can contribute
she replies:

my dear, thank you! bread, please--pumpernickel and rye. i love them both although generally prefer rye without seeds. pepperidge farm from the grocery shelf or siegfrieds or that little bakery on about 4th east and maybe 1st south. well there are several places and you will know them better than i, for sure! if everyone comes then we are twenty. thanks and i will let you know if more are coming. love to you.

thanks for the specificity. geesh.

even better. follow up phone call from mark.

"you're on bread patrol? make no sudden movements. we've gotta talk before you buy bread. there are a few rules. ditch the pumpernickel. we need a good rye and a quality sourdough. 46 slices total. i've seen good stuff at harmons. but that's it for grocery stores. don't bother with albertson's."

aye aye, captain.

food snots.
all of them!

turns out, we're having reuben sandwiches.
i don't even like reuben's.
