oh, it's so great to be back in america. i love love love mexico... but, as you will see in a future blog post, there are a few priceless modern conveniences that i just love love love even more.
there's no sense in telling stories... i know it's just the pictures you want to see.
i can tell you that at no point on this trip were our lives ever jeopardized like they have been on previous trips. that was kind of a let down.
i can also tell you that the food was delicious.
and it was wet and rainy most of the time... but i'd take wet and rainy over hot and muggy any day.
somebody... not me... was the star of the week. somebody could do no wrong. somebody was everybody's hero. and, i fear, somebody has just about robbed me of the "practically perfect in every way" title. hmmph.
i saw beautiful things... ate delicious things... hiked amazing hikes... and had a killer good time for 8 solid days.
our itinerary looked like this:
villahermosa to palenque

naha for a night
villahermosa for a couple
and... a day in houston, just for kicks.
now, onto the show.
now, onto the show.
waterfalls. all over the place.
crazy high suspension bridge.
more amazing water features.
boat rides all over the place. that shore line you're looking at there is guatemala. we were almost there!

we ate breakfast here en route to metzabok. native villagers would cook for the traveling tourists. delicious authentic food all day, every day.
a view from the top.
julie. ally. aubry. kevin.
this guy - juan, i think - is a mayan. the dude mayans wear these robes. shields, if you will. crazy, eh? he also had like 3 teeth.
click this one big. check out that face of mine. funny, right?
living quarters in metzabok. we only lasted a day there. even our guides knew this was a dingey place.
the happiest little ninos you ever did see.
that's me. and ally. in bed. all tucked in. mosquito net n' all.
during a hard rainstorm, a huge tree branch fell on our 6th-grade-camp hut. totally scary. we thought our roof was going to collapse.
