cool coffee

there is a coffee chain here called caribou coffee.  i'm not sure about it's origin or where else you can find it, but if you do find one, you should GO!  why??  because their cups are SO cool!  they have little quotes and messages all over them which are ADORABLE.  i have had a few caribou coffee's since my arrival in kuwait but the other day i got the BEST cup!!  in fact, it is so good that i kept it (much to phil's dismay) to share with you!

caribou coffee inspiration:
  • thank a teacher
  • make today special
  • start right now
  • be a HERO minus the dorky cape
  • follow your heart
  • love what you brew.  brew what you love.
  • become a bee keeper
  • smile first, ask questions later
  • laugh so hard you cry
  • learn to dance a jig
  • make time for silly
  • dance to your own rhythm
  • listen 1st talk 2nd
  • compliment a stranger
  • adopt an animal
  • take all your vacation days
  • do it for love, not profit
  • enter a pie eating contest
AWESOME right??  ya that's what i thought!!  actually, i think lindsay and i are on our way to caribou coffee RIGHT NOW!

bbq, laser, and lenses. OH MY!

janice and rita looking beautiful
adam and colleen bbq-ing in style!
last night friends of ours invited our whole staff to a bbq outside of their building.  it was so nice.  we had a whole little bbq area, a couple tables, a grassy spot to sit, and lots of food and drinks!  many people from our school came, along with a few others and it was a great way to just relax and enjoy an evening with friends.

ted and brett (our host) playing with the laser.
cindy likes the laser too!
at the bbq, one of the boys had a toy.  the boys all thought it was awesome.  i didn't really get it.  until i held it in my hand.  it was one of those laser pointer thingys that people use for presentations and stuff except this thing could shoot SUPER far!  like unbelievably far.  so, we all took turns playing with it and marveling at how far away it would shoot.  it doesn't sound exciting.  but it was.  i promise.

our lovely hostess winnie and cindy with her new do!
i also brought my camera because i wanted to practice taking pictures at night without a flash.  but i wasn't really thinking and i brought a lens that was not very good for night time.  the good news is that chris let me borrow his 35 mm lens and it was SO much fun to shoot with.  i got some pretty good night time shots with no flash and i think i learned a thing or two!

anna and brother luke
could this kid be any cuter??
eric and rita looking hot!

funny story...

this past weekend consisted of a lot of socializing, a lot of beverage consumption, and not a lot of homework.  but it was a good weekend!  a great weekend in fact!  the funny story transpired sunday afternoon.  it went something like this:

jeremy and i had decided to catch up on our tv watching and as we watched the big bang theory, we had a glass of wine.  then we had another glass of wine and before we knew it, the wine was all gone.  so, we decided that we would try out the rum punch that a friend had made for us.  jeremy says it was delicious, i say it tasted a bit like poison.

anyway, after the punch, jeremy decided (in his infinite wisdom) that it would be hilarious to text everyone jsut saying something random and see what kind of response we would get.  so he sent, "emily and i are getting crazy tonight.  you in?" to everyone (keeping in mind that it is sunday afternoon).  we thought it was funny and didn't really expect much response.  boy, were we wrong!

EVEYONE responded and before we knew it, there was going to be a party at "kelly's house" that night, even though kelly was in cambodia.  we then thought it would awesome if kelly were to arrive home late that night to a party in full swing!  nice!

anyway, at 6:48 pm (cause that's when we told everyone to be there - random, i know), we were having a party.  nothing out of control.  just some beer, pizza, talking, laughing, and wii.  anyway, good fun for a sunday night.  i think it's getting pretty obvious that it's "that time of year"!

p.s. just to make things interesting, i also had a little texting excitment when sending out the party invite.  i had also sent the message saying, "jeremy and i are getting crazy tonight.  you in?"  and then i get this message back, "hi emily.  sounds fun but this is N's dad.  maybe you want ot get crazy with someone else?"  OH YES!  i sent the text to one of the fathers of my student's from last year!!!  in my defense, his name is common and there is a teacher at the school with the same name....
so i text back, "wow that's awesome and embarrasing!  sorry!"  oh dear....
