my baby

on saturday i talked to my mom on the phone and while we were chatting, cow jumped up on her lap for a little cuddle.  anyway, i wanted to say hi to my baby so my mom held the phone up to him and i was talking when suddenly, he started to PURR!!!  i could hear him on the phone!!  it was SO sweet!!  and then i cried.  cause i miss him a lot.  a lot.  a lot!!

meet gizma

the other day on the way to school we saw a little wee kitty outside of lindsay and phil's apartment.  she was just this little wee thing, laying under pat and kelly's car.  but, we had to go to school so i just tried not to think about the poor little thing, laying there in the heat all day long.  :( 

after school i was walking on the treadmill when there was a knock at the door.  i ran to the door and there was cathy yelling, "have you seen it?  have you seen it?"  and there, in the hallway was the little kitty!!  on the SEVENTH floor of the apartment!!  and not only that, but cathy said that before i came out into the hallway, the little kitty was just sitting there, staring at the wall.  but then, when i opened the door, the little kitty was trying to get into our house!  she found me!!  SHE found ME! 

so of course i fell in love instantly.  but i knew i couldn't keep her because phil is so allergic and it wouldn't be fair to cow.  i picked up the kitty and brought her back downstairs.  i  felt so bad!  then alex and lindsay came home and we brought the kitty some milk and water and a little bed that we made out of a shoe box and some towels.  the kitty didn't want any of it.  she just wanted love.  she wanted to cuddle.  as i was squatting to pet her, she just came over to my foot and laid down against it.  i kept petting her and it seemed that he was happiest when she was getting some love.  naturally, that's when i tarted crying and knew that i had o leave before i got too attached.  we did decide that she needed a name though, and lindsay thought of gizma because she is kinda strange looking.  like gizmo.  but for a girl.

the next morning gizma was no where to be seen.  and we haven't seen her since.  i am going to imagine it's because someone else saw her and loved her and brought her home.  now she is probably living with more love than she can handle!  poor little gizma....
i'm telling you i was SO close to having a kuwait kitty....cow what do you think??  oh!  you think you would like a little brother or sister?!  ok :)

since i can't have cow with me here in kuwait, smokey is going to take his place...but just for now.  she's a very good girl!  she loves to play with her toy and eat canned kitty food.

yesterday i posted that i missed my cow boy.  mom commented on my post and it was really funny.  what she wrote was funny but i also think that it sounds like something i would write so i wanted to share it with you:

He's being pretty crazy right now, Em. A little on the wild side. And I don't want you to think we aren't taking care of him, but today Dad was outside sanding and when he stopped he heard this little "meow" behind him. He turned around and thought "that cat looks alot like Cow!" And guess what, it WAS Cow!!!! So, he casually walked over and picked him up and got lots of loving. I guess he forgot to latch the door and Cow opened it on his own. What a smart little kitty. Thought you might get a little laugh out of it. Ttys. Love Mom xoxoxo and Cow xoxoxo

hanging with makai

the other day i got lucky and got to spend some time alone in the afternoon with makai.  he came over to the house to  play with cow and he had a blast!!  he also gave cow his new nickname:  cowee wowee!  i LOVE it!  it suits him very well!

oh, and i forgot to tell you.  makai even dressed up for the occasion!

a tough decision

so i've been thinking a lot about what to do with cow when i move to kuwait.  should i bring him with me?  should i leave him here with my parents??  i just don't know what to do. 
of course i want to bring him with me cause if i don't i will miss him dearly.  but if i bring him he will have to endure that terrible flight, and this time UNDER the plane.  then of course the thought of traveling and leaving him kuwait as i am off trotting here and there isn't very nice for him....

anyway, as colleen says, it seems like i've already made up my mind.  and i think i have.  cow is going to stay in canada with his grandparents (haha) this year.  he is happy here and quite comfortable to be in charge here in wawa.  plus, even though it's hard to believe, he is totally being spoiled here! 

i'm going to miss my cowboy SOOOOO much!  and i have told my parents that when i come back, he is MINE!! 

i'll keep you posted, but i am SURE that august 24th will NOT be a good day!!

"hi, may? where did you go???"

um....it's june!  how did this happen??  where did may go??  and why did it go in such a hurry???

i like june.  don't get me wrong.  here are some of the wonderful things that happen in june:

june 4 - my parents will celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary!

june 9 - CIS will hold it's 2nd annual Art for Action event.

june 15 - it's my momma's birthday!

june 24 - LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! (but i will miss my kids!)

june 26 - MY birthday!!!

june 27 - leave HCMC, via hong kong, headed for the promise land!

june 28 - cow and i will arrive at our "summer home" in wawa!

add to that more birthdays of wonderful friends and colleagues along with some not so wonderful goodbyes and that's that.  JUNE.  whoa.  it will be over before we know it.

ok, so what if all i talk about is cow??

i have a good story for you!

yesterday before school, i was in my room getting ready when kelly knocked on my door and asked if he could put the cat in my room.  i said that was fine and asked why.  kelly went on to explain that cow had just come out from under the TV stand with......a dead bird.  

this immediately makes me laugh and then i have a few questions:

1.  how did a bird get into my eigthth floor apartment?

2.  was the bird alive when it got in?  i supposed it would have to have been....otherwise how would it get in?

3.  did the bird die of natural causes?

4.  do i have a murderer on my hands?!?!?!?

thoughts on these questions is appreciated.

cat? dog? cow??

cow seems to be having a bit of an issue...

it seems that he thinks he is a dog.  and i guess i didn't give him a fair shot...naming a cat "cow".  but seriously!

tonight he was driving kelly nuts as he tried to mark some math.  he kept stealing kels pens and biting his papers.  so i made him a ball out of tin foil for him to chase around the house.  i am NOT kidding you, we are now playing FETCH!  i throw the ball, he runs like a mad man to get it and then he brings it back and drops it on the couch beside me. 

it is SERIOUSLY hilarious! 

and now, after playing a serious game of fetch for the past 20 minutes, he is sprawled out on the kitchen floor on his tummy with his legs spread out wide.  too cute!!

BOOOOOO porter air!

i have heard many lovely things about porter air.  so i was very excited when they had a seat sale for my trip home from toronto to the soo.  i booked my flight and cow and i were set.  or so i thought.  

tonight i sat down to call both cathay and porter to confirm that cow would be flying with me (my cousin who works for an airline suggested this, otherwise i wouldn't have called).  boy am i glad i called!  turns out that porter air WILL NOT take pets on their flights!!  NO PETS ALLOWED!  not even under the plane!!  as a result, i had to cancel my flight which costs $50 plus tax and the remainder can be used as "porter credit" but expires in a year!  WTF?!  

i am unimpressed.  thus, cow and i are on hold with air canada to confirm that he can join me before i book (another) flight home! 

cow's big weekend

yesterday cow had his second vet appointment.  we had to go for round two of his vaccinations plus the rabies vaccination.  

the bad news is that cow HATES, and i mean HATES, needles.  he cries.  really loud and makes me want to cry!  the good news is that he doesn't need anymore needles for another year!

next i asked the vet if he thought cow had worms cause he's getting so fat...he said no, that he thinks that cow is just fat.  hahahaha good to know!  but he gave him a worm prevention pill just in case.  so that's good.  

also, the vet had cat litter!  so i bought 2 bags.  and an extra bag of food.  that should keep us for a while!

finally, while we were at the vet, jen and i went upstairs to see what was happening in the cat room.  there are EIGHT new kittens and they look like they might be 3 or 4 weeks old!  far too young to be away from their mommies.  and even smaller than cow when i got him.  they are SO cute!  i considered taking one home.  after all, what's one more??  right??  then i decided that my parents and kelly might kill me....so cow remains an only child.  for now.

have i told you about cow's little "habit"??

he has this thing about sucking.  like as if he were sucking on his mother.  

so he tries to suck my shirt.  but that makes me insane cause then i have a big wet spot on my shirt.  so instead, he sucks on my hands.  it's become a bit annoying but i feel bad because i think he does it because he was taken away from his mother at such a young age.  it's also really cute.  but then i can't type...sometimes i have to type with one hand.  pathetic?  yup!

kelly does not think it's cute.  next week i am taking my class to hoi an and kelly is cow sitting.  he says that when i get back, cow won't do that anymore....we'll see :)
