lunch.

i go out to lunch, a lot
most of the time with the same co-worker
and most of the time we do a soup/salad/sandwich combo
{diet coke included, natch}
at the local bakeries
very fresh, very delish

but, let's be honest
the bakery is SUCH a lady lunch date place
grandmas monopolize the tables
girlfriends gather with their babies
four generations of women - grandma, mom, daughter, and her newborn
piles of women... everywhere

i guess too much time spent as the minority gender does a number on a man's manliness
so occassionally, to even the score, we'll do five guys burger and fries
{LOTS of dudes there}

but today, for the first time ever
at kneader's bakery
over a turkey and provolone sandwich
with a cup of corn and green chile bisque
i was the minority
i ate among the men
lots and lots of bakery going men
suit and tie wearing execs
two {two!} sets of twenty something dudes
FIREFIGHTERS, even

at last, mr. co-worker felt justified in the element
and, even for a brown girl, i felt like a minority
