i played helper girl at a golf tournament today. wasn't too sure of my job description when i signed on, but i knew it beat a day at the office. AND, by default, it's an opp to mingle with the client.
all the real business is handled on the golf course, right?
6:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
7:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
8:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
9:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
10:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
11:30 a.m., POURING RAIN
and yet, i did my duty. happily. photo girl, documenting the cheating teams, the happy teams, the skilled teams, the frustrated teams, etc.
zig-zagging across the course with wreckless abandon, unaware of the rules of when to zig and where to zag, in a golf cart all my own, in the POURING RAIN, i did my duty. happily.
{enjoying life in the covered cart while the end-of-the-world rainstorm did its thing.}
and then, 9 holes in, the camera battery died.
and so, i played umbrella girl, emotional support girl, cheerleader girl, and all around good company girl to my co-workers.
i even humored them when they asked me to drive and putt a golf ball.
apparently, i'm entertainment girl, too.
i know enough to wince when they hook it, sweet talk the ball as it's landing on the green, high five the team when they enter birdie territory, and keep quiet when they {double} bogie.
and i enjoyed it all.
i don't golf, i don't ski, i don't have much recreational skill,
but i'll always be there - for good company and full support.
and maybe someday, i'll learn to dress more appropriately - shorts and a cardigan on a thunderstorm-y day just won't cut it. maybe i'll learn to bring warm enough clothing so that the kind sirs of my life can finally wear their own rain jackets rather than sacrificing them to the token ill-prepared {yet fashionable} female.
