Where it all began..

Most of us remember where it all started or what got us hooked to 4130 love.. I remember wanting to ride speedway bikes as a kid & bmx was just a way to slide around the place thinking i was Ivan Mauger. Then come doing wheelies etc down the street seeing how many lamp post you could do & jumping curbs. I was going to start this post off with some old as pics of me doing a wheelie outside my parents place on my HMX600... But i can't find that pic... So i'll just skip alot of years & go straight to learning to air the mornington bowl... Ok in the pic i've already learn't... But I'd seen Tony Dick now drummer for Evolver air 2ft out & was hooked.... Game on...

Boom... Check those rad shorts... Year?? 1986/87...Some twat had crossed out the BMX spray paint in the back ground... Ha you can't keep us bmxrs away.... We later took over this angry old bitch & made it home for BMX... She loved lots of skin & body parts..

My goal was to air higher than anyone,I managed to do this by sabotaging the other guys bikes,Kelvin mercer works on his bike in the background while i get time in the air.... Mwhaa hahaha.

Here kelvins trying to see up my shorts.... But i'm not wearing shorts.... "FAIL". R.I.P kelv... He was a bastard at times,He used to grab my front or back wheel when i'd air out... Used to put the shits up me real bad.

Thats brent coombs in the background... Looking rather bored by the whole thing... Think i was trying to do look backs?? We had attacked the bowl with paint,Dyno sprayed by canyon side ( Bitch slot ).

I've dumped the tuff wheels in favour of spokes,Limbs started to come off by now... 1987 i think going by those odyssey flying wedge bars... Those things were weak as,You'd bend them on your first ride!

Bottom sided 1 hand 1 footer... I can't even do this trick anymore.... Riding a hutch race frame!

1988 mansons bikes & mower started bringing in GT & Dyno frames, My old mate nathan o'connor got the first one from memory? A black beast of a machine... Belows the only photo i have of it....

Unfortunately i don't have anymore pictures from this era,It mite be time to raid my parents photo albums? Early 90's skateboarding had a massive boom & mosgiel got a test mini ramp & riding the bowl became something I'd only do every now an then, It's hard to believe it's still there & the DCC haven't decided to fill it in or some thing,It's the kind of crap they'd do!  

Year unknown maybe 1993? Riding my BULYY II at the bowl while some sambo gives me the look...

Tom O'boyle even got a shot of the mornington bowl in his RIDE UK magazine interview.
