2 1/2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
12 slices of french bread
{or really delicious white bread like, say, granny sycamores}
mix eggs, salt, sugar, vanilla, and milk until well blended. slowly add flour and baking powder. mix until smooth. dip bread slices into the mixture and allow excess to drip off. grill on medium high for about a minute on each side.

in a saucepan, heat and stir butter, sugar, and buttermilk until boiling. remove from heat. stir in vanilla and baking soda. serve warm.
