I was debating if I should continue with the 'Costume Idea' feature on my blog now that we're past halloween and all. Although I don't only look at costumes just that time of year. It's something that I genuinely have interest in all year round. I think that's why I love theme parties so much too -- another excuse to dress up in a costume!! So there you go. I just answered my own question. I will continue posting about costumes/ideas I find interesting. It probably won't be as often -- but often enough. Did that even make any sense?? Anyways...
Pretty much everyone knows who Rosie the Riveter is, or have at least once seen the famous picture above. If not, Rosie the Riveter became the cultural icon in the United States during World War II, representing women that had to basically work in factories and keep things running while most men were off at war. I guess the term 'Rosie the Riveter' came from a song in the early 1940's, using 'Rosie' as an assembly line worker, and an inspiration for American women. There's actually more to it and some interesting further information which you can read here.
This icon has been used over and over again throughout history, such as here with the singer Pink in her music video Raise Your Glass.
Actress Alexis Bledel.
Hit-Girl from the movie Kick-Ass.
Paintings/Art.
Tattoos.
Magazine/Book Covers.
And costumes..!!
This costume would take such minimal effort, and would be so easy and affordable to do. All you really need is the blue work uniform coveralls, red bandana, and lunch pail.
Katie the Riveter.
My gf Katie showed up at our 1950's Boardgame party in her version of the famous icon. I thought this was very creative costume idea for the party, and am pretty sure I squealed in delight when I saw her. :)
xoxoxo...
