q:
what is your favorite holiday tradition?
a:
the bennion family lack of tradition.
the scott-and-rebecca-bennions from san diego are notorious for the lack of traditional holiday... tradition.
nothing fancy to eat. we dine on paper plates. we don't travel to see family {why would we? we're in san diego...} we don't have stockings. we don't open presents one at a time to show our siblings what santa brought us. we barely think to say thank you. santa doesn't come... and the presents don't necessarily come from anyone. they're "to" aubry, but the "from" portion of the tag is blank. there are presents under the tree... no one worries about where they came from or how they got there. there's no need to don our christmas sweaters. in fact, there's no need to change from our pajamas that day. we don't draw names or do a coordinated gift exchange {we tried it once... wasn't that successful}.
it's the LACK of tradition that we celebrate.
we DO, however, see a movie on christmas day. but rather than agreeing upon one, we all go our seperate ways and see whatever movie we want. yeah, that's how the bennion's roll. we also watch "a christmas story" on tbs 12 times before we remember we have the DVD and can watch it commercial free.

i s'pose the only tradition we keep is to open presents at 6 a.m., despite the fact that we're all grown adults. scott throws presents in each kid's direction until they're all out from under the tree. we're usually done by 6:07.
i tried pulling out the video camera one year... to, you know, record our family moment. it didn't last long. my dad said, "aubry, put that thing away or else i'll take my clothes off, or something. no one wants to see that."
i love being a {san diego} bennion.
we'd have it no other way... right?
