although in canada today is a somber, more serious day, in korea it's quite the opposite. and because i have many korean students, i was lucky enough to join them in celebrating PEPERO day!!! of course, before today i had NO idea what that meant, but now i know. and i have enjoyed.
pepero is the name of a korean treat that is like chocolate covered pretzel sticks. (see photo). this day is like valentines day in a way, as koreans celebrate by buying pepero or other small treats for people they love. i got a box of pepero from a student. they were very yummy. OH and the reason they celebrate on 11/11 is because they say that two pepero sticks beside each other looks like the number 11. so 11/11 it is!
go get yourself some pepero sticks, quick! embrace pepero day! :)
